I finished reading The Crow Road by Iain Banks last night. Well, ultimately I enjoyed it. I did however find it hard work. A couple of things; firstly he jumps around in time and viewpoint way too often for my liking, making it hard to follow at times. And secondly, Banks doesn’t appear to be a particular prosey writer, however, ever now and then he just goes off on one, and it seems more to prove a point rather than to move the story forward. By the end I had enjoyed the journey but I’m not sure if I would read another one of his books.

I’ve seen a few of his books on sale at my local charity shop. Apparently on the blurb for one of them, it mentions he’s a controversial author, which perked my interest. But the rest of synopsis didn’t so I ignored it again. I’d never even heard of him until the other day and now he pops up again here. The actual design of the book itself was offputting too. I know you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover (literally) but when you’re unsure about an author, as shallow as it is, it helps!
With so many books to choose from, I find that you need to have something to filter out books that you don’t want to read… so once you get past recommendation, I find the book cover is as good a filter as any!
I HAVE READ SEVERAL IAIN BANKS BOOKS AND MY FAVOURITE EVER IS “THE WASP FACTORY” BEARING IN MIND I WAS ONLY 15 IT BLEW MY MIND AND MADE ME HOW AWARE OUR PARENTS CAN CONTROL AND MOULD OUR LIVES THROUGH TELLING US HALF TRUTHS ALL THE TIME SO THEY THEN DO BECOME TRUTH TO YOU!!!!!!!!!!1

As others have also mentioned this book as being one of his best, then I will add it to my reading list… I guess I owe him another chance… thanks for the tip.
