Money Grabbin’ …

lagunaII.jpgCar was in for it’s MOT yesterday. The only problem relating to the MOT was worn brakes. As it was in the garage, I took the opportunity to get a new key card and have them reprogrammed. I also asked them to look at the faulty tyre pressure sensor that has been giving me grief for over 12 months now.

The final bill was over £550! I grumbled very loudly and the price was brought down to £460 by reducing the labour hours. Now, how come someone can reduce the labour rate without getting managerial authority? That sir, suggests to me that the prices include and “optional” discount.

The final labour was 3 hours at £66 an hour. How does an MOT, changing a sensor, and changing the brakes take over 3 hours?

I still need to fix the front fog light glass. Fix the passenger side speaker, and fix the

Oo De Lally

Robin Hood and Little John
Walkin’ through the forest
Laughin’ back and forth
At what the other’ne has to say
Reminiscin’, This-‘n’-thattin’
Havin’ such a good time
Oo-de-lally, Oo-de-lally
Golly, what a day

Never ever thinkin’ there was danger in the water
They were drinkin’, they just guzzled it down
Never dreamin’ that a schemin’ sheriff and his posse
Was a-watchin’ them an’ gatherin’ around
Robin Hood and Little John
Runnin’ through the forest
Jumpin’ fences, dodgin’ trees
An’ tryin’ to get away
Contemplatin’ nothin’
But escape an’ fin’lly makin’ it
Oo-de-lally, Oo-de-lally
Golly, what a day

Oo-de-lally, Oo-de-lally
Golly, what a day

Doomdark’s Revenge

I sat down today to do some DDR code, first in a while, and spent 3 hours debugging some crashes!

Don’t you just hate it when you leave your code in a none working state! One was some bad XML, incorrect closing elements, and the other was some memory being trashed. The memory problem was due to my string class doing a shallow copy on assignment… well actually it wasn’t, but the compiler was for some reason not using my string assignment operator and instead doing it itself! Actually I have no idea what the compiler is doing at that point… grr…

Listening in…

You know how they say that you remember everything; you just need to find a way of unlocking the memory. Well, I wonder if it is true for hearing things. If you are in a room with hundreds of voices do you hear them all? Ultimately the “noise” cannot be interpreted but I wonder if that is because your mind is trying to focus on them all at the same time? So, if you hear everything, and can remember everything, could you later filter through the noise to isolate a specific person speaking and therefore over time be able to tell what everyone in the room was saying? Imagine the gossip you would here…

Omega 3

Why has everything got in it nowadays? Yes I currently have choice if I am to buy it or not, but how long before someone decides that we would all be better by getting a guaranteed dose of Omega 3, and forcing it in our food.
Also, my understanding is that there is no proof that Omega 3 actually helps anything according to health information technology
. I don’t have a scientific paper to point at but I remember listenting to a piece on the radio that mentioned that the original findings that Omega 3 is good for you is dubious and flawed. It seems to me as always, just eat a healthy diet and listen to your body. Try from time to time and all will be just fine.
