The Green Mile

The Green MileI’ve just finished reading ’s The Green Mile. I watched the film a few months ago and loved it and just knew I had to read the book.

was originally published in 6 serialised books. However, the version I read was a complete book version. The only thing to remember about reading it that way is to take a break between the definate book breaks. This is just to give you chance to allow the “previously in” sections to work to full affect. I have to say the device King uses to give you a refresher works remarkable well and isn’t at all a long summary of the previous book.

I loved the book as well! It makes me sad and tugs at emotions in ways than many other books just fail to achieve.

The Crow Road

The Crow RoadI finished reading by last night. Well, ultimately I enjoyed it. I did however find it hard work. A couple of things; firstly he jumps around in time and viewpoint way too often for my liking, making it hard to follow at times. And secondly, Banks doesn’t appear to be a particular prosey writer, however, ever now and then he just goes off on one, and it seems more to prove a point rather than to move the story forward. By the end I had enjoyed the journey but I’m not sure if I would read another one of his books.

The Crow Road

The Crow RoadI’m reading The Crow Road by at the moment. I’m enjoying it even if I can only manage to read about a chapter a day, due to commitments… anyway so far my favourite opening paragraphs to a chapter are;

Right, now this isn’t as bad as it sounds, but… I was in bed with my Aunty Janice.
Well, actually, in one sense it’s exactly as bad as it sounds because when I say I was in bed with her, I don’t mean I was in bed with her because we’d gone hill walking together and been caught out in a snow storm an eventually found shelter in some exceptionally well-appointed bothy that just so happened to have only one bed and we had got in together to keep warm; nothing like that. We were fucking.

Googlewhack!

GooglewhackHot on the heals of reading Are You Dave Gorman? I’ve just finished reading Dave Gormans Googlewhack Adventure. You should probably take a little time to check up on what a is… but in esscence its when you type two words into Google as a search phrase and only get one page back… there are other rules.

Again I watched the DVD before reading the book. But the books is still very enjoyable all the same. I don’t think it is quite as good as Are you ? Mainly because in that one, Dave is obssesed with his task and Danny is unwittingly and against his will pulled into it. In this one Dave is kind of performing both roles. Nevertheless, I still laughed out loud on numerous occasions.

Are you Dave Gorman

Are Uou Dave Gorman?I watched the TV show The Dave Gorman Collection some time ago, but I’ve only just got around to reading the book Are You Dave Gorman? I guess that technically I didn’t really need to read the book, but I was interested in all the extra detail that the book would afford.

Anyway, I really enjoyed it. Funny all the way through. And all those extra little details are really worth the read. For those not familiar with the TV show or the Book. ends up trying to win a bet against his flat mate that he can’t meet 54 other Dave Gormans. It’s a bet that sees them travelling the world and putting themselves in some very strange situations.
