Hox Brasserie

Victoria and I went to Hox Brasserie Indian Restaurant in Salisbury on Monday night.

A quote from Event Planners in Chicago website…

Hox Brasserie focuses on Southern Indian food. The spices used in these dishes are very different. For starters, they are traditional and authentic. We don’t mix the spices or believe with playing with our dishes. What we believe in is giving our diners good, traditional Indian food in a modern, contemporary environment of colour and light.

The food was very good, excellent in fact. Highly recommend it.

We ate:

Starters
Tiger Prawn Pepper Fry – Fresh, crisp tiger prawns tossed in a peppery Malabar masala.
Spicy Crab Cake – fresh flaked crab with Goa spices. Marinated mussels, cooked dry, with a special home style Kottayam masala.

Main Course
Malabar Chicken Stew – A delicacy from Kerala. An all time favourite made with boneless piece of chicken, vegetables, coconut milk and fresh spices.
Lobster Pepper FryLobster Pepper Fry – Fresh, crispy lobster tossed in a peppery Malabar masala served with rice, salad, sauce and naan.

Had a slight hickup with the hire car while we were there. I dropped Victoria off at the resteraunt and then tried to find. After I parked the car, I couldn’t get it out of Drive. The dash said that it was in Neutral, but the stick was lighting Drive. Either way, the stick wouldn’t move – nor would the car… I stuck the hand break on left it, hoping for the best. When we returned to the car later, expecting to have to call someone out to it… it worked fine!!!!

Another Year

Cake!

Well, another year has passed me by. As I get older, wiser, more handsom, and modest :), I also get more tired, fat, grey, and generally knackered… what a trade!

3 Car Shunt

Police Rapid ResponseI was in the middle of a 3 car shunt this morning, feeling a bit ‘odd’… a bit dazed and confused more than anything else. Neck feels a little pulled and I’m a little muggy.

Anyway, A car ran into the back of me while I was in the fast lane of the motorway – this caused me to hit the car in front. Damage to front and rear bumpers… no major damage other than the bumpers needing replacing.

The stupid thing was; we were made to wait by the motorway patrol until the police came and allowed us to drive away safely… this caused 20 mins of tail backs. However, we could have pulled away immediatley as there was nothing in front of us iin the fast lane anymore, and the traffic around us was now going slow!!!!!

New Camera

I got a new camera at the weekend. I’ve been wanting a real camera for a while and this was my Christmas/Birthday present. For those who are interested in such things; it’s a Canon EOS 400d, which I got with a SIGMA 70-300mm DG APO MACRO lens.

Here are a few of my initial tinkering photos.

The Passion of the Christ

passion_of_christ.jpgI watched ’s The Passion of the Christ over the weekend; an interesting endeavour. Although I am an , I do have an interest in all things Christ like. I don’t rule out the possibility that Christ did exist in some form or another, and that current stories about him are a version of the truth, if we remove any obvious Son of God elements etc…
Anyway, it’s hard going. It’s very well made and very gritty; not the clean cut versions that have previously been show. If there is any truth in the story, you well imagine it could have looked something like this. However, this realism has its price; the film is so hard to watch because it is so horrible. I had to watch it in two sittings to ease the pain.

The film doesn’t bring anything new to the story of The Passion it just depicts it very realisticly, so on that basis I have to question the point of the film. I guess if you are Christian then it would cement your feelings for Christ and what he went through to absolve your sins, if you are Jewish then you’re going to be pretty angry about how the film depicts the actions of the Jews.

If we remove the obvious issues about “facts” of the story, it seems to me that much of the film is on dubious territory with regards the facts of what happened. I don’t recall there being any story that depicts the sheer amount of tortue that Jesus supposedly endured. Yes, the way in which he was tortured is likely correct, there is indeed written history that details how the Romans crucified people. However, had any man been tortured so much then I doubt he would have made it to Golgotha let alone be still alive to actually be attached to the cross. Gibson portrays the Roman soldiers as being particularly nasty drunken slobs, again I can’t see where any evidence would be that would hold up his depiction. And then, there are the Jews… if anything would make me consider that Gibson is anti-semitic, then this film is it. Again, there is little evidence to show that the Jews where so full of vile and hatred of Christ, yes they may have wanted him dead, but in such manner and with the huge venom and vitriole that the film depicts.
