Games are too Violent

One thing that gets my goat at the moment is the coverage that games need regulating and clearer ratings to help parents make informed choices… well excuse me, games have age ratings. and not only that we also show a graphic to indicate what might be in the game – which is more than the video industry does!

So before the media gets on its soap box and blames video games for a whole host of things, lets think… can you read? If so, then as a parent you have a informed choice already, if you can’t – don’t buy your kids a game, instead spend the money and go to night school.

Dreams

Funny one happened to me this morning. I had this dream where I was lying in bed and through the grass I could see thousands of cockroaches marching down this path. I turned a little to get a better look at them and they’d turned into rats! They then started swarming mean, biting me, and I was unable to escape. I tried to scream out for help but nothing would come out!

And, I was sure I was awake!

I don’t recall the last bad dream I had, it was so long ago, I just don’t normally have them. The only thing I can put it down to was watching the last few episodes of “I’m a celeb…” The trauma of it! 🙂

Christmas Nativity Play

I watched Rebekah’s first Nativity play yesterday. Bless her, she was so happy on the stage, and seemed really proud of herself when she finally found us in the crowd. She through us a little wave, sort of “hi, but I can speak for long as I’m in a play!” She was a sheep, with these funny floppy ears. Cute as a button. She had to sing a few songs and perform a few dance moves with the others in her group.

What I did find a little odd and always struggle with the concept of is; Video Cameras. I hate them! I don’t like the idea of living my life through a lense. Now I know that I will regret this in years to come when I can’t look back at old memories in their exact detail, but heh, I don’t want exact detail. I want a picture to give my memory a jog and nothing else.

The number of proud fathers stood round the hall, eyes glued to the lense as they video’d every second of the 45 minute play. I wonder if they really appreciated the moment, or if they’ll watch it when they get home? I suppose its the difference from watch a football match at the stadium or watching the hilights. Seeing your favourite band in concert or buying the DVD.

More Books

I forgot to mention that I read “Pirates In an Adventure with Scientists!” by Gideo Defeo. Fergus lent it to me. I was very funny. It’s a very small book, only takes a night to read, a bit like A Series of unfortunate events for size and ease of reading. A very worthwhile distraction… read it inbetween long books!

Death Star on Saturn’s canvas

BBC NEWS | Science/Nature | Moon dance on Saturn’s canvas

Simple but affective photograph. I really like the idea that someone deemed to nickname the moon as a deathstar. Pitty it’s not it’s official name!
