Father and Son

Father and Son
Cat Stevens

Father
It’s not time to make a change,
Just relax, take it easy.
You’re still young, that’s your fault,
There’s so much you have to know.
Find a girl, settle down,
If you want you can marry.
Look at me, i am old, but i’m happy.

I was once like you are now, and i know that it’s not easy,
To be calm when you’ve found something going on.
But take your time, think a lot,
Why, think of everything you’ve got.
For you will still be here tomorrow, but your dreams may not.

Son
How can i try to explain, when i do he turns away again.
It’s always been the same, same old story.
From the moment i could talk i was ordered to listen.
Now there’s a way and i know that i have to go away.
I know i have to go.

Father
It’s not time to make a change,
Just sit down, take it slowly.
You’re still young, that’s your fault,
There’s so much you have to go through.
Find a girl, settle down,
If you want you can marry.
Look at me, i am old, but i’m happy.
(son– away away away, i know i have to
Make this decision alone – no)
Son
All the times that i cried, keeping all the things i knew inside,
It’s hard, but it’s harder to ignore it.
If they were right, i’d agree, but it’s them you know not me.
Now there’s a way and i know that i have to go away.
I know i have to go.
(father– stay stay stay, why must you go and
Make this decision alone?)

I Hope You Dance…

I thought I’d start posting lyrics that I really like. It’s always bothered me that song lyrics are never afforded the same respect as poetry gets. The first two are topical as they hasve both been covered by Ronan Keating, and are either on release now or about to be! Strange.

I Hope You Dance
Lee Ann Womack

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder,
You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger,
May you never take one single breath for granted,
GOD forbid love ever leave you empty handed,
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean,
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens,
Promise me that you’ll give faith a fighting chance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.

I hope you dance….I hope you dance.

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance,
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Livin’ might mean takin’ chances but they’re worth takin’,
Lovin’ might be a mistake but it’s worth makin’,
Don’t let some hell bent heart leave you bitter,
When you come close to sellin’ out reconsider,
Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.

I hope you dance….I hope you dance.
I hope you dance….I hope you dance.
(Time is a wheel in constant motion always rolling us along,
Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder where those years have gone.)

I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean,
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens,
Promise me that you’ll give faith a fighting chance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.

Dance….I hope you dance.
I hope you dance….I hope you dance.
I hope you dance….I hope you dance..
(Time is a wheel in constant motion always rolling us along
Tell me who wants to look back on their years and wonder where those years have gone

Blade Runner and Guy Fawkes

While driving home on Friday night, over the top road to my house which runs over the plateau which is the highest point in the New Forest I believe- anway, it is a fantastic flat panoramic, I was watching the many many firework displays going off, and it reminded me so much of the opeing scenes of bladerunner.

I don’t know, I don’t care…

I don’t know, I don’t care, and it doesn’t make any difference!
–Jack Kerouac

I think that kind of sums me up at the moment. I don’t recall ever feeling so down. It’s a strange sensation because not matter how hard to try and lift yourself you can always see the fall away below you. I guess it’s work and all the things that go with it. I know I’m ready for a change, I just have to get out because it’s affecting everything I do and feel. I don’t recall ever hating anything the way I hate work!
